“Alan Esler joined Botany Division at
Palmerston North in 1969, and soon moved to Auckland to set up and
manage the regional station. Over the years he has written many
papers on ecology and plant distribution, including major works
covering the Manawatu and Auckland districts. As regional
botanist, he has ably represented the Division in the most
populous area of New Zealand.”
